Warm Farina Cereal

Cook Time: 7 minutes
Ayurvedic Benefits: Vata- and Pitta-balancing; suitable for Kapha with light adjustments
Cost: Approximately $4.50–$6

Ingredients

Base

  • 1 cup farina cereal
(or substitute rolled oats, same measurement)

  • 3 cups water

  • 1 cup oat milk

  • ½ cup brown sugar

  • Pinch of salt (optional)

Toppings (per bowl)

  • Extra oat milk (1–2 tbsp each)

  • Brown sugar (1 tsp each, optional)

  • Chopped pecans (2 tbsp each)

  • Flax–chia–coconut blend (1 tbsp each)

Instructions

  1. Bring 3 cups of water to a boil in a medium pot.

  2. Stir in the ½ cup brown sugar until the crystals dissolve.

  3. Lower the heat to medium-low.

  4. Slowly pour in the farina while whisking constantly to prevent clumping.

  5. Continue stirring for 2–3 minutes, until the mixture thickens.

  6. Add 1 cup of oat milk and cook for another minute until creamy.

  7. Turn off the heat and allow the farina to sit for 2–3 minutes to finish thickening.

  8. Serve warm. Garnish each bowl with a drizzle of oat milk, a sprinkle of sugar, pecans, and the flax–chia–coconut topping.

Yield: About 4 cups of cooked farina — enough for 3 hearty servings or 4 moderate servings.

Ayurvedic Dosha Notes

This recipe is naturally warm, grounding, and easy to digest, making it supportive for Vata and Pitta.
Kapha can enjoy it too with a few small adjustments.

Vata

  • Warm, creamy, and gently sweet → very balancing

  • Toppings like pecans and chia help nourish Vata
    No modifications needed.

Pitta

  • The mild sweetness and oat milk are soothing

  • Farina (wheat) is neutral and easy on digestion
    No modifications needed.

Kapha

Kapha tends to get aggravated by heavy, sweet, creamy foods — but you can still enjoy this bowl if you lighten it:

Kapha-friendly modifications:

  • Reduce brown sugar in the base to ¼ cup

  • Use fewer toppings or skip pecans if needed

  • Add warming spices like ginger, cinnamon, or cardamom

  • Keep portions moderate

These small changes shift the recipe from “too heavy” to “supportive and energizing” for Kapha.

  • Farina: $0.80

  • Oat milk: $0.80

  • Pecans: $2.00

  • Flax–chia–coconut: $0.75
